BEHOLD STEWARDSHIP CAMPAIGN
We are called upon to build a sustainable future for our Chapel. With the Board of Trustees and the leadership of parishioners Joe Hale and Dr. Larry Guido, we announced a stewardship campaign this year called “Behold” which will provide financial security necessary for the Chapel to continue its time-honored role at the center of summer life in ‘Sconset. Our goal is to provide excellent pastoral leadership, programs that nourish the intellect and spirit, outreach to meet Nantucket’s community needs, and very importantly, the preservation and maintenance of the Chapel’s historic building, columbarium and its grounds.
'Sconset: 02564 Exhibition
The Nantucket Historical Association's major summer exhibition in 2008 will be 'Sconset: 02564, A Celebration of the Patchwork Village and be held in the Peter Foulger Gallery of the Nantucket Whaling Museum. The exhibition will feature the history, architecture, personalities, and "character" of this unique village at the eastern end of Nantucket, often described as the most charming in America, following its evolution from a fishing village to a lovely place to spend the summer.
The 'Sconset Chapel, celebrating its 125th Anniversary, is pleased to be part of this exhibition. The exhibition will be open to the general public on May23. A special 'Sconset Night is scheduled for the Museum on July 2. Contact 508-228-1894 x 0 for details.
Chapel Anniversary Commemorative Book
Behold is the title of the 'Sconset book that is due to come out in early summer. You must recognize that word from the quote over the altar in the Chapel! This book is "truly a commemorative book. What started out by the Needlepoint Committee as a book on the Chapel needlework grew to be a history of the Chapel and its closely intertwined relationship with the village of 'Sconset. The one without the others did not seem complete. There are a few behind the scenes stories such as the story behind the size of the kneelers - an amusing tale of taking the offering by a couple of very distinguished gentlemen in the congregation - picking flowers for the Sunday service, Stanley Johnson's dependence on his glasses to read, and if you were a stitcher for the kneelers, your needlework is pictured in all its glory. History, ministry, traditions and the glorious needlework are the main part of this book and...wait until you see some of the old pictures - they are wonderful! We hope you will enjoy it.
The book will be for sale at the Chapel on Sundays and during the week when it is open to the public and during the Nantucket Garden Club's Garden and House Tour in 'Sconset. It will also be available at other sites in the village and in town.
